Political Science Department: 1998-99

  • UW Political Science was the largest social science department with the most majors and student credit hours
  • 28.5 faculty members, and 7 adjunct with associated departments
  • 6659 students were taught this year, amounting to 33,200 credit hours
  • 21 classes participated in computer-related projects in Political Science Computer Classroom

Political Science Graduate Students: 1998-99

  • 80 graduate students regularly enrolled: 44 men, 36 women
  • 59 graduate students were in full-time residence
  • 21 graduate students were on leave or doing full-time research
  • 6 graduate students conducted research in these countries: Australia, Belgium, Indonesia, Israel, Japan
  • 6 graduate students pursued advanced language study with FLAS fellowship support
  • 4 M.A. degrees awarded
  • 9 Ph.D. degrees awarded
  • 11 graduate students were placed in educational institutions (tenure track positions and postdoctoral positions)

Community-based Service Projects: 1998-99

  • 150 students from 8 classes did service-learning
  • 15 students did internships in Washington, DC
  • 13 students interned at the Washington State Legislature
  • 68 students participated in other state, county and city/local internships
