Deadline for the 2016-17 Political Science Honors Program: Monday, January 25th, 2016.

Monday, January 25, 2016 - 12:00am

The Honors Program is a program of advanced study in political science for undergraduates who wish to pursue a more challenging course of study in their junior or senior year. Students accepted into the program must take Pol S 398 (Honors Seminar) in spring 2016, Pol S 399 (Honors Thesis Seminar) in autumn 2016 and one additional 400-level seminar course chosen from a departmental list. The 400-level seminar may be taken at any time but must be completed by spring 2017 (a seminar already completed or in progress may count toward this requirement). Students earn 5 credits for each seminar, a total of 15 credits, and must earn a minimum grade of 3.3 in each course. All three seminars may count toward major requirements as well. Additionally, students write an honors thesis (POL S 488 and POL S 489) in winter and spring 2017. Thesis credits do not count toward the major, but they do count as writing credit.

Students completing this program will earn 'Honors in Political Science' at graduation. Students who are in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program, as well as in the Political Science Honors Program, will earn 'College Honors in Political Science' at graduation.

To be considered for admission to the program, students must meet the following requirements:
-major in Political Science,
-five courses in political science (may have four courses completed with the fifth in progress when submitting the application), -minimum 3.5 GPA in the Political Science major,
-minimum 3.3 overall GPA,
-completion of 90 credits minimum (i.e. junior standing) by the start of spring quarter 2016.
