Congress, Polarization and Party Warfare

Sean Theriault is the author of Party Polarization in Congress (Cambridge University Press, 2008), and The Gingrich Senators: The Roots of Partisan Warfare in Congress (Oxford University Press, 2013).

It's hard to imagine a more relevant topic these days! One of Professor Theriault's primary contributions is to differentiate between party conflict motivated by policy and ideological differences, and conflict motivated by other considerations - what he terms partisan warfare.
