Writing Tutors and Volunteers Needed for Dream Project Event

Submitted by Caterina Rost on October 22, 2015 - 9:33am

Calling ALL Potential Volunteers and Tutors of UW!

UW Dream Project is a student-initiated program that aims to assist low-income and first-generation high school students in attaining higher education. We do this by going on weekly visits to support our mentees through the college application process and through our various events throughout the academic year. We would like to invite you to volunteer at our largest upcoming event Admissions Workshop Weekend (AWW) on November 14th and 15th, 2015.

What is AWW?

AWW is a two-day weekend getaway for high school seniors to finish personal statements and college applications. In the past, 80% of attending high school students successfully completed at least one application during the weekend, which is hugely impactful on a mentee’s life.

How can I help?

As high school students consider how to present themselves in their applications and craft their personal statements, volunteer writing tutors offer support and feedback along the way. Volunteering is typically scheduled in 3-hour shifts, during which you will help students brainstorm, outline, flesh out, and/or revise their application statements. Lunch is available for all-day-shift volunteers. There will also be snacks, and coffee provided for everybody.

When and where is AWW?

Whether you volunteer for one shift or two days, your time and attention are invaluable to the high school students. Volunteers in the past have found their time at this event both enjoyable and extremely rewarding. There will be an opportunity for shifts from 11:00AM-2:00PM and 1:30PM-4:30PM each day. A mandatory orientation will be required at the beginning of each shift. Please fill out the volunteer survey at this link to register as a volunteer.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you!
