JSIS C 145: Introduction to Judaism is being taught this year by a new professor -- Professor Mika Ahuvia -- whose past students rave about her attention to teaching and learning.
Students in the course will learn about the foundational stories and history of the Jewish people and consider how these stories became part of the Western heritage. They will consider how the literature, history, and experiences of the Jews address universal questions and concerns, including the relationship between the individual and community; the role of storytelling in cultural transmission; and how ethnic groups preserve identity in changing times.
This is a great course for students looking to strengthen their skills in reading and analysis of primary and secondary texts, and for any student looking to explore international relations, comparative religion, or cultural studies.
