UW Political Science Professor Aseem Prakash and his colleague Nives Dolšak from the UW School of Marine and Environmental Affairs were interviewed by KUOW’s Emily Fox for a segment on President Trump’s proposed cut of the EnergyStar program. Prakash and Dolšak argue that “ending the program doesn’t make sense.” Prakash noted: “Businesses love it. Consumers love it. Everybody loves it.”

Further, they pointed out that “there are lots of reasons to keep” the voluntary program that was created by President George H.W. Bush in 1992. Not only does it have Republican support, but “it’s good for consumers,” “it creates a ‘market for virtue,’” and has a “marginal fiscal impact.”

The radio segment along with a short article titled “UW profs urge Trump not to kill EnergyStar” by Emily Fox, John Ryan, and Katherine Banwell was published on the KUOW website on March 31, 2017.The public radio station serves the Puget Sound region and is a NPR member station.

Listen to the 4-minute segment.
