Marine Biology Minor

To learn more about the marine ecosystem of the Salish Sea and beyond, consider the Minor in Marine Biology. This minor includes courses from the School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences, The School of Oceanography, and the Department of Biology. Courses focus on topics such as: marine mammals, invertebrate zoology, marine resource conservation, and marine pollution.

The minor:
  • Is 35 credits
  • Can be paired with any major (science or otherwise)
  • Is one of the only minors that can be declared before a major - even in your freshman year
To immerse yourself in the field, study marine biology at Friday Harbor Labs: the UW's marine field station in the San Juan Islands. Plan now to spend the entire spring quarter at the labs with courses such as "Marine Mammals of the Salish Sea". Visit fhl.uw.edu for more details, or view a summary video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZqX2GRDO6M
