Scott Lemieux in the LA Times, "If Democrats sweep the House this fall, blame Paul Ryan's rich-on-poor class warfare"

Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan announced that he would not seek re-election in November and said that he wanted more time with his family. However, there are more reasons to it and they showed that if the Democrats won the House this November, Paul Ryan is one of the reason. He announced his retirement in the same week as the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the federal deficit in 2020 would exceed almost a trillion dollars. Despite that he portrayed himself as a humble politician that wanted a bipartisan solution to the deficit, he never cared about the deficit. He cut tax on the upper-class and increased spending on defense. In addition to increasing debt, he also attempted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replacing it with American Health Care Act, which cut healthcare drastically and will cause 23 million people to lose their insurance because of it. All these showed that his legacy is “single-minded campaign of rich-on-poor class warfare”.
