Drama 365: Black Women Playwrights

This course examines the work of several Black women Playwrights, giving special attention to the social, political and economic contexts in which their work was created and presented. We will take time to examine a range of plays with regard to form, content and historical context. Our goal is to uncover/rediscover the work of these women.

Valerie Curtis-Newton

Professor in Acting and Directing and Head of MFA in Directing, Professor Curtis-Newton oversees the Hansberry Project, a professional African American theatre lab.
