Prof. Victor Menaldo interview with KBTC/KCTS, "Cancel Culture"

Submitted by Stephen Dunne on April 12, 2021 - 12:44pm

Prof. Victor Menaldo in an interview with South Sound PBS affiliate KBTC, posted on the Seattle KCTS station web site discussing the intentions and implications of what has become known as "cancel culture."

Some highlights:
--Cancel culture is not new. We can find examples in history and cancel culture can be how a society expresses its values.

--Cancel culture can start with good intentions: getting rid of offensive language and stereotypes; way of opening the discussion to new ideas and speech.

--The Bad: could be a way to gaslight and distort someone's speech; used as retribution; virtue signaling at someone else' expense and livelyhood.
