DIS ST 384 - Topics in Disability Rights and Inequalities
Topic: COMPARATIVE INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW & DISABILITY
The purpose of this course is to build on interest in human rights law generally and provide students with an opportunity for deeper engagement with the mechanisms through which international human rights are recognized and implemented at the national level. The course will build familiarity with the human rights mechanisms within the United Nations and regional human rights systems, and increase understanding of the role of “soft law” tools including civil society advocacy, and monitoring of State commitments. The objective is to encourage a comparative and critical analysis that assesses how international human rights are operationalized at global, regional, and national levels.
