Many of you know that I am connected to many transportation equity efforts throughout the city and county, so I just thought I'd share the following internship opportunity. Any undergraduate student with a strong interest in transportation equity can apply for this internship including undeclared pre majors. Position Description

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) established the Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion (OEEI) to further solidify our commitment to equity.  OEEI is responsible for leading the strategic vision and leadership in the planning, promotion and advancement of equity and diversity, and leads SDOT to measurable improvements. OEEI promotes and upholds equity at SDOT through internal advocacy, partnership with the SDOT Race and Social Justice (RSJ) Change Team, and the portfolios of WMBE and Contracting Equity, Race and Social Justice Initiative, Transportation Equity, EEO, and Title VI.  OEEI is located in the Director's Office.  We are seeking an undergraduate student to join our team.

The Transportation Equity Program Manager will provide training and on-going support and feedback to the intern regarding the Transportation Equity portfolio, implementation, program support and coordination.

Job Responsibilities

100 % Support Transportation Equity (TE) portfolio that includes:

  • Trainings
  • Participation in SDOT-related meetings (internal and external) 
  • Coordinating meeting logistics 
  • Supporting internal communication efforts 
  • Research and analysis related to transportation equity  
  • Implementing TE Framework equity tactics

Qualifications


Education:  Open to all undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program.
 
Preferred Areas of Study:  Public Administration, Social Work, Communications, Public Health and other related areas of study.
 

Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.
 
EXPERIENCE
 
Required:

  • Ability to research areas of equity 
  • Strong communication skills (internal and external clients)
  • Excellent relationship building skills with diverse/BIPOC communities -Strong computer skills
  • Demonstrated work and/or life experience in equity and social justice work, organizations, or movements.
  Desired Qualifications:  
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Data Analysis 
  • Able to work in collaborative team environments 
  • Project management skills 
  • MS Office skills (Excel, Microsoft)
  • Understanding of intersectional social justice issues in race, gender, class, and disability
  • Strong and nuanced understanding of BIPOC communities, social justice/anti-racism principles
  • Ability to work independently and take direction in work, as needed

Additional Information

Start/End Dates:  Late March/Early April 2022 - April 28, 2023
 
Schedule Intern will work 20 hours/weeks while school is in session.  40 hours/week during school breaks.  Work hours can be scheduled between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
 
Salary:  
Undergraduate students will be paid $19.09/hour
