Submitted by Stephen Dunne on January 19, 2023 - 3:11pm

Don’t Cage Our Oceans Campaign Internship & Volunteer Opportunity

Application

Location: Across Washington State

Term: We are looking for interns and volunteers to begin immediately and work through the spring semester.

Hours: 8-10 per week for interns. If unable to commit to a set amount of time, ask about flexible volunteer opportunities!

Campaign description:

Offshore finfish farming, also known as offshore aquaculture, refers to raising fish in nets or cages at an industrial scale out at sea so they can be harvested and eaten. This method of factory farming in our oceans generates contamination, pollution, and low-oxygen dead zones as chemicals and fish waste flow into the surrounding waters. These operations also threaten the livelihoods of locals who rely on sustainable fishing and aquaculture to make a living. We are working to prevent offshore finfish farming development in federal waters off of the coast of Washington and across the country!

Job description:

We're looking for passionate and motivated students to help us on all aspects of this critical campaign. Activities include grassroots leadership development, media relations, business and nonprofit outreach, social media content generation, recruitment, and more!

Compensation:

The internship is unpaid but will provide the opportunity to develop skills including public speaking, communication, managing and training volunteers, and environmental advocacy! This is an excellent opportunity to build your resume and gain hands-on experience and training (including frequent 1-on-1 meetings with your supervisor) while making a lasting difference in your community. Your supervisor will work with you to apply for internship credit through your university where applicable and write letters of recommendation as wanted.

To apply:

Fill out this form, and we will be in touch shortly.
