Opportunity for Students: WSA & Mi Centro Advocacy Bootcamp

In 2 weeks, the Washington Student Association and Mi Centro Washington are hosting an Advocacy Boot Camp! The curriculum will be a mix of WSA and Mi Centro's Legislative Advocacy Trainings. Below is more information about the event. The Bootcamp is free to attend for college students, and we only have about 25 spots. No requirements except being from a WSA member campus, so it's first come first serve!

WSA and Mi Centro Advocacy Bootcamp

Location: Mi Centro (1208 S 10th St. Tacoma, WA 98405)

Deadline to Register: June 10th

Date: June 19th – 23rd

Who should/can attend: Open for all students from WSA member campuses. Highly recommended for folks interested in higher education policy and the legislative liaison position. 

Details: This weeklong course will take a deep dive into the legislative branch in Washington state and how to effectively organize. The course will be taught by WSA Director Nancy Canales, and Mi Centro Director of Instruction, Adan Espino plus special guests! It will feature guests such as legislators, legislative staff, lobbyists, organizers, and other community leaders. Learn to efficiently advocate using the resources on your campus. Highly recommended for students who are interested in learning more about policy, advocacy, and our state’s higher education system. All expenses such as lodging, transportation, and food will be covered.

Participating students will:

- learn the ins and outs of the policy making process
- learn to organize effective campaigns on your campus
- Meet other students from around the state
- Meet legislators, lobbyists, and other community leaders
- Get trained by an in-house and a contract lobbyist
- Learn about issues affecting students statewide
- Participate in a legislative session simulation
