New HCDE Course: Sustainable Design (HCDE 316)

A new undergraduate course called Sustainable Design (HCDE 316) is being offered this Autumn 2024 quarter and being co-taught by Dr. Tyler Fox and Dr. Katya Cherukumilli. This course is currently restricted to HCDE majors, but any remaining spaces will be open to all UW undergraduates during Period 3 Registration (09/25-10/01). (Note: The HCDE Department does not permit students to add HCDE courses once the Late Add Period has begun.)

Time: TuTh 2:30-4:20pm (first day of class will be Thursday, Sep 26)
Location: Sieg 233

Prerequisites: None
Description: This course explores the environmental and societal impacts of digital products and services while mastering sustainable design principles. Students will be introduced to key concepts like lifecycle assessment and cradle-to-cradle design. Through hands-on projects, students build a sustainable design framework that applies to both physical and digital materials.
