The POL S/JSIS/LSJ/GWSS Writing Center is now open for Winter Quarter! Our team of tutors is ready as always to support you throughout the quarter at any stage of the writing process. Students may attend their tutoring sessions remotely or in-person. Go to the WRITING CENTER WEBSITE to sign up for an appointment.
We are now offering drop-in hours (remotely or in-person) Mon-Th from 3pm-4pm! If you'd like 15 minutes of concentrated writing feedback, either go to Gowen 111 or hop on our drop-in hour zoom link here, no appointment necessary!
What We Do:
  • We assist at all points of the writing process – from brainstorming to the final draft – so that your written work clearly and effectively communicates your ideas.
  • We are here to help you write strong thesis statements, make persuasive arguments, use evidence to support your claims, use proper citation practices, understand the expectations of your assignment, and learn disciplinary writing norms.
  • We can also provide feedback about major applications, cover letters, internship applications, fellowship applications, applications for law school or grad school, etc.
Who can use the Writing Center?
Any student taking a class listed in or cross-listed with Political Science, Jackson School, Law, Societies & Justice or Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies or is majoring (or an intended major) in any of these programs. This includes writers of all abilities, English language learners, and graduate students.
Hours and location:
Mon 10am-4pm, Tu-Th 9am-4pm, and Fridays 9am-2pm. Drop-in hours are Mon-Th 3pm-4pm. We're located in Gowen 111. Gowen Hall is on the Quad, in the building closest to Suzzallo Library. We are located on the first floor just to the left of the Political Science Main Office.
How to make an appointment:
We are an appointment-based service, with approximately 60 available sessions each week Monday-Friday. All appointments are 45 min long and can be in-person or virtual via Zoom. To book an appointment, follow this link to select a time, tutor, type of appointment (in-person or online) and fill out a short form.
