ESRM 190
Sign up to get hands on skills in applications of earth observation (remote sensing), geospatial data analysis and visualization tools used in one of the fastest growing global job markets (16% growth expected by 2029)!
There are still open spots in ESRM190/ENVIR295 - Digital Earth: SLN 14406 Learn to harness geospatial technology and remote sensing to see the planet in a new light.
This class is hybrid with the Tuesday lecture Q&A time on zoom live, the lectures are pre-recorded for asynchronous learning. The Thursday labs are on-line for asynchronous learning.
There are no course requirements to enroll in the course. The course is: 5 credits = 2 lecture credits + 3 lab credits.
The Earth is undergoing an era of rapid change, understanding this change and the impacts for life on Earth depends on systematically analyzing and interpreting evolving data, tools and theories that are highly interdisciplinary, yet need to be integrated into workflows capable of fostering understanding, knowledge and action. There is now a sizeable amount of remote sensing data (e.g. satellite imagery, aerial imagery, LiDAR) that has become increasingly accessible through platforms such as Google Earth/and Google Earth Engine, Climate Engine, and the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources LiDAR portal. These datasets can now be accessed through apps that do not require lengthy training or specialized skills to use. The goals of this course are to develop remote sensing literacy and introduce geospatial technology to a diverse student population early in their academic careers.
