Biography

Yulenni is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington, Graduate Assistant for the Washington Institute for the Study of Inequality and Race (WISIR) (2022–present), and incoming POLS/JSIS/LSJ/GWSS Writing Center Director (2024–present). She is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar (2020-2021; 2022-2023) and a Graduate Fellow with WISIR and the Office of Graduate Student Equity and Excellence (GSEE). 

Yulenni's research focuses on Latino identity, immigration politics, gender, and Latino Republicans. Her dissertation project examines the identity and gender politics of Latino Republican Congressional candidates. Her work outside of academia includes community outreach and direct action to help migrants get access to resources or battle against workplace abuses, as well as GOTV and election campaigns for members of congress.

Outside of research and politics, Yulenni is an avid baker, oil pastel artist, and a huge sci-fi + fantasy fan.
