Biography

Yulenni is a PhD student in political science at the University of Washington. She is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and a graduate fellow with the Office of Graduate Student Equity and Excellence (GSEE) as well as the Washington Institute for the Study of Inequality and Race (WISIR). Her research focuses on Latino identity, immigration enforcement, and the Latino immigrant rights movement.  Some of her previous work includes a multi-method study utilizing census data, local immigration policies, and interview data to analyze how the threat of deportation affects the strategies employed by Latino immigrant rights activists across Washington State and Arizona. Her work outside of academia includes community outreach and direct action to help migrants get access to resources or battle against workplace abuses, as well as GOTV and election campaigns for members of congress.

Outside of research and politics, Yulenni is an avid baker, short story writer, and huge sci-fi + fantasy fan.
