Undergraduate Scholarships

The Political Science Department offers several undergraduate scholarships.

The Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards maintains listings and information on merit based scholarships. Many of these scholarships have deadlines in early fall, so it is recommended that you look into them as early as possible. Included in the listings are the Marshall Scholarship, the Rhodes Scholarship, the Fulbright-Hayes Grant, the National Science Foundation Fellowship, the Truman Scholarship, and the Andrew Mellon Fellowships, among others. The scholarship office is located in Room 120 Mary Gates Hall.

Agnes C. Nelson Memorial Scholarship

The Application for the Agnes Nelson Scholarship is offered to students majoring in Economics or Political Science who demonstrate interest in BOTH fields. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have completed a minimum of 25 credits in political science and economics with at least 10 credits in each discipline and have a FAFSA on file.

Hugh A. Bone Scholarship

The Hugh A. Bone Scholarship is available to students who apply to one of the department's full-time internship programs, and are based on a student's financial need as well as their interest in public service. This scholarship recognizes the former professor and department chair who established the Washington Legislative Internship program in 1956.

The Brian L. Comstock Merit Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes a highly meritorious undergraduate. Brian L. Comstock received his undergraduate degree in Political Science before serving in the US Army and practicing law in the Seattle area.

The Emily Thompson Smith Endowed Student Support Fund in Environmental Politics

This scholarship supports undergraduate students engaged in the study of Environmental Politics. It honors the award-winning journalist Emily Thompson Smith, who graduated from the University of Washington in 1972.

The Lemieux Family Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship supports political science students based on financial need. It was established by Scott, Emily and Elaine Lemieux, a family strongly supportive of higher education.

The Gary and Susan Duck Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship  supports first-generation college students based on financial need with special consideration given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in Environmental Politics. Susan received her Master’s in Social Work and Gary received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Washington.
