Internship with Be: Seattle

Description

Be:Seattle is a non-profit organization which aims to empower the low-income and homeless population of Seattle. We are looking for motivated and dynamic interns to help lead our projects. Our interns can expect to be involved in a wide range of tasks and to be in roles of great responsibilities.

We can offer a ton of field experience for interns. Interns will learn the ins and out of running a growing non-profit, get firsthand experience working with local politicians/staff, and gain experience in building partnerships with other organizations.

Expect to work with a team and to have chances to work directly with the populations that we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and foster relationships with business and organizational partners
  • Take charge on all of our projects – The Pledge, Tenant Rights Bootcamps, and InterVAL
  • Event and workshop planning + showflow
  • Researching housing and homelessness policies
  • Volunteer recruitment – Volunteers are the backbone of our organization.
  • Continue to develop our internship program – Interns are organizational leaders.

Requirements

  • Be outgoing and ready to be on the ground floor of innovative new projects.
  • Have knowledge of the homelessness and housing affordability crisis in Seattle.
  • Be empathetic. We work with many different communities through our projects.
  • See organizing as a way to combat issues facing no, low, and middle-income neighbors in Seattle.
  • Knowledge of/ability to use Microsoft Word & Excel, Google Apps (including gmail), and ability to do internet research is essential.
  • Feeling comfortable on the phone or speaking in front of groups is a huge plus
  • Proficiency in a second language – especially Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic, Somali or Cantonese – is a huge plus

Hours:

  • 10-15 hours per week with weeknight flexibility.
