Syllabus Description (from Canvas):
This course uses an American political development approach to the study of labor movements in the United States. We go beyond considerations of historical relationships to production and into deeper understandings of the normative implications of the various labor movements; contextual understandings of the battles to protect workers; and the intersection of struggles between race and recognition in labor. Our goal is to develop a nuanced and robust body of knowledge conceptualizing how historical labor movements coalesce into the contemporary landscape of work.
Catalog Description:
Conceptual and theoretical issues in the study of labor and work. Role of labor in national and international politics. Formation of labor movements. Historical and contemporary role of labor in the modern world. Course equivalent to: BIS 249. Course overlaps with: T EGL 266. Offered: jointly with HSTCMP 249/SOC 266.
