Northwest Consumer Law Center

214 E. Galer St. Ste. 100

Seattle, WA  98102

Description:

Northwest Consumer Law Center is a non-profit law firm located in Seattle which represents low to moderate income Washington State consumers. We handle all consumer related legal issues including Bankruptcy, Foreclosure Defense, Fair Debt Collections Practice Act, Consumer Law Fraud, and other consumer law litigation.

Position:

We are looking for an intern to work two days a week with us in Seattle and possibly one day a week from home. As an intern, you will gain experience in office work, non-profit legal aid, bankruptcy petition preparation, legal research, drafting court notes and other legal documents, training with Case Master and Bankruptcy Pro, practice with professional emails and calendaring, and potentially some court observation.

We aim to provide you with the work experience needed to confidently thrive in a law office after graduation. We are a small organization and have plenty of work that needs to be done! However, we will establish with you an open line of communication so that you can achieve your intended outcomes from your internship.

You will meet with your supervising attorney at the beginning of your internship to establish goals and discuss how you can achieve those goals during your internship.  Our hope is that you grow both personally and professionally while interning with us.

The benefit of a non-profit organization internship is the opportunity to work collaboratively with attorneys and paralegals, take on leadership roles, and be a part of a creative environment as we grow our organization to serve a larger community.

You may intern with our office for 3 to 6 months of internship with possible extensions depending on your work or education goals. To assist you with your professional development, we aim to assist interns with reference letters and networking before and after graduation. Our consumer law community is large and very much interconnected.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to Seattle two days a week. Parking is not available.
  • Have an interest in Consumer Law and/or Non-profit work
  • Be reliable with excellent communication skills
  • Have at least three quarters of legal studies or one year of college education completed
  • Must have cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
