If yes, come to one of the six information sessions for The Washington Center that are scheduled for today and tomorrow:

Thursday, November 5

  •   1130-1220 GWN 1A
  •   1230-120  SMI 107
  •   230-320   LOW 117

There will also be drop-in times to meet with the TWC representative in SMI 215 (the Political Science Advising Office) today from 230-320 and on Thursday from 1030-1120.

The Washington Center (TWC) runs an internship program in Washington, D.C., that is open to all UW students (all majors welcome) and provides comprehensive service, including internship placement and housing. Placements include government agencies, corporations, nonprofits, museums, arts organizations, and international organizations. Hundreds of UW students have participated in this program since UW's affiliation in 1977, and many made connections that led to post-degree employment.

At the informational meetings, a Washington Center representative and I will discuss the structure of the program, scholarships, the application process, and UW credit.

The program is affordable for many students. UW WA State residents receive a $2500 scholarship that makes the cost of attending the program comparable to participating in many study abroad programs. UW international students and residents of other states receive a $1000 scholarship and pay less for this program than the estimated cost of attending UW for a quarter. Additional discounts are available in autumn 2016 for UW students.

TWC's facilities are accessible to students who have disabilities. In addition, their Disability Services Coordinator will assist with accommodation at the internship and programming sites.

These are the upcoming application deadlines (for a full list of organizations that have earlier deadlines see http://www.twc.edu/node/11029):

  • Spring 2016 (15 weeks): Priority*: 10/14/15, Regular: 11/18/15
  • Summer 2016 (10 weeks), Priority*: 2/17/16, Regular: 3/16/16
  • Autumn 2016 (15 weeks), Priority*: 5/4/16, Regular: 6/8/16

  * Priority deadline is for scholarships above the minimum guaranteed

Regardless of your major, there is an internship in D.C. for you! Whether you want to do an internship this year or in three years, come to an information session to learn more.

If you can't make it, contact me, Meera Roy, for an appointment (available online at https://depts.washington.edu/polsadvc/signup.php -- you can change the week at the top of the screen- or you can email me for an appointment time). Information is also available at TWC's website, www.twc.edu
