Extreme Markets (SOC401) and Sociology Research Practicum (SOC 403)

Sociology 401B, "Extreme Markets," discusses the culture of high-stakes Wallstreet trading as well as other outlying or extreme markets, i.e. organ sales or prostitution.  This course fulfills the university's writing requirement and is intended for Juniors and Seniors.  The course's topic and themes might make it of interest to many different majors and programs.

There is still ample room in both of our SOC403 research practicum!  This is a great opportunity for students to apply social science training to "real world" research projects.  403A evaluates the success of a Rainier Beach civic organization to reduce crime in their neighborhood (see: http://safeplaceforyouth.weebly.com/). 403B undertakes of data merge of residential information supplied by the City of Seattle (SHA) and King County (KCHA) housing authorities.  Students in 403B are charged with determining the migratory patterns of participants in the Seattle/King County's Section 8 housing programs.  Students in 403B will learn GIS software and will advance their statistical thinking.
