Bad Blood: Event featuring local gay activists

BAD BLOOD?

Feb 23, 6-8pm
at Gay City Health Project
517 E Pike St

After the tragic Orlando massacre at Pulse Nightclub, our communities rallied to give the survivors a precious resource, their own blood. Thousands lined up at blood banks across the country, but many were turned away. Why? Sexually active gay men are banned from donating blood, per FDA regulations.

The FDA has changed the regulation (which covers all human tissues, including blood and bone marrow) somewhat.  How is this ban rooted in discrimination and how is it rooted in science?

Join the conversation at "Bad Blood?", an event featuring local gay activists Phil Bereano  and Christopher Peguero, and Dr. Aubouchon of Bloodworks Northwest. There will be a panel discussion followed by an open forum.
  • Peguero is currently the Environmental Equity Advisor for Seattle City Light and a Board Member at Gay City
  • Dr. Aubuchon is the President and CEO of Bloodworks Northwest, a blood bank and medical research institute headquartered in Seattle, Washington that serves 90 hospitals in western Washington and Oregon.
  • Philip L. Bereano was a cofounder of ACT/Up Seattle, Chaired the UW Presidential Task Force which led to the establishment of the Q Center, etc, and have been active in many community political issues
