GEOG 436B/JSIS 485B  SOCIAL AND POLITICAL GEOGRAPHIES OF SOUTH ASIA
 
Summer Term A.       5 Credits
I&S Credit.                 MTWTh 9:40-11:10 [Friday take home] 
This course introduces the social and political geographies of South Asia through a reference to contemporary change in India. It outlines key concepts related to the reproduction of inequality in the region, particularly theories of caste, class, gender, sexuality, and religious communalism. Class lectures, readings and discussions will draw on interdisciplinary empirical research and will utilize different mediums such as texts, documentary film etc.
