Submitted by Tamara Sollinger on January 2, 2018 - 4:19pm

The Honors Program is a program of advanced study in political science for undergraduates who wish to pursue a more challenging course of study in their junior and senior year. Students design and conduct their own research project under the supervision of a faculty adviser, gain in-depth knowledge and an understanding of key theoretical and empirical debates in the field of political science, and acquire research design skills and the ability to work independently on a major research project. The honors thesis program also gives students the opportunity to work closely with faculty, similar to a graduate school experience.

Program Requirements

-Pol S 487, Honors Seminar, 5 credits, Spring 2018, minimum grade of 3.3. Counts towards major requirements as a field (field determined by course content) or elective course.
-Pol S 488, Honors Thesis Seminar, 5 credits, Autumn 2018, minimum grade of 3.3. Counts towards major requirements as an elective course.
-Pol S 489, Honors Thesis, 5 credits, Winter 2019, minimum grade of 3.3. Written under the supervision of a faculty member in Political Science or an approved faculty member from another program. Counts for writing credit. Pol S 489 does NOT count towards major requirements.

Grading

Pol S 488 and Pol S 489 are a two course sequence. Upon completing the required assignments in Pol S 488 with a grade of 3.3 or higher, the student will receive an N grade at the end of Fall Quarter. An N grade is a sign that the student is earning a grade of at least 3.3 in Pol S 488 and making satisfactory progress towards the objective of completing an honors thesis. In Pol S 489 the student will enroll with their individual Honors Thesis Advisor who will submit the final thesis grade at the end of Winter Quarter. That grade will also replace the N grade for Pol S 488.

Students completing this program will earn 'Honors in Political Science' at graduation. Students who are in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program, as well as in the Political Science Honors Program, will earn 'College Honors in Political Science' at graduation.

To be considered for admission to the program, students must meet the following requirements: -major in Political Science,
