Build a better world.

Earn your master's degree and start your professional planning career in Seattle, one of the most innovative and sustainable cities in the country. Our fully accredited Master of Urban Planning (MUP) program will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience you need to become a professional urban planner or designer.

Our master's degree is designed to help you create the great places where we work, live, and thrive. It offers specializations in urban design; land use, infrastructure, and transportation planning; environmental planning; historic preservation; real estate; and an individualized specialization option. Students may also pursue certificates in housing and urban design, and concurrent degrees with landscape architecture, public administration, public health, and more.

Additionally, our program offers several unique features, including:

  • Planning-focused study abroad opportunities in Asia, Europe, and Latin America
  • Professional mentoring and career support from our Professionals Council of local planners
  • Access to the full resources of the University of Washington, ranked #4 among public institutions on the Times Higher Education world university rankings for 2018
  • 90% of mater's students hired in a planning-related job within one year of graduation

We are committed to building a more diverse profession and equitable world. Students of color and other traditionally under-represented applicants are especially encouraged to apply. Fellowships and other financial support is available. International students are welcomed!
