Unique Course for your students - please forward!

This spring students have the opportunity to take a 3-credit course on Inuit education with Visiting Fulbright Arctic Chair, Dr. Kathy Snow - ARCTIC 401.

Dr. Kathy Snow, UW’s 2019-2020 UW Canada Fulbright Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies, will teach ARCTIC 401: Inuit Education: Past, Present and Future. Using education as a context for discussion, this course will explore relationships between Inuit and Qallunaat (non-Inuit) within Inuit Nunangat (the name given traditional territories of the Inuit within Canada). Topics will include the history of Inuit education, the relationship of education to land claims, Inuit models of education and current issues in Inuit education reform in Canada.

This 3-credit course will count towards the Arctic Studies minor, and is a wonderful chance to learn from a top scholar coming to us from the University of Prince Edward Island.

Dr. Snow is an Associate Professor in Education at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is also the academic lead for the University’s certificate in Educational Leadership Nunavut, a partnership between the University of Prince Edward Island and the Government of Nunavut to support professional development of teachers. As a qallunaat (non-Inuit person) who grew up in Nunavut, Dr. Snow has experienced the education system of the territory from multiple perspectives which has led her to research in service of her first home. She researches in the areas of Inuit student success, persistence and wellness as well as Inuit teacher education and resilience.
