Special Topic in Latin America (JSIS 480) - Summer 2020 - Term A (9:40-11:50 am - M,T,W,Th)
Do you want to understand more about what is going on in Brazil -- politically, environmentally, and culturally?
This course focuses on important issues affecting Brazil today, such as the devastation of the Amazon Forest and the work of indigenous peoples to protect it. Other topics will include the rise of the far-right in Brazil, the government's reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the increase of hate crimes against LGBTQ+. These issues will be explored through art (cinema and literature), in addition to social media.
