WHAT: A UW journalism publishing project to showcase student reporting and analysis on this year’s historic general elections.

Register now for the Department of Communication's summer-quarter elections reporting course in which students are being encouraged to explore digital reporting styles, genres and methods. Students will be instructed in reporting, editing, packaging and promoting stories on the kind of issues that energize young voters. The course is being run virtually for as long as Covid restrictions remain in place and is using the opportunity to encourage creative thinking about and practice in how best to run distributed newsrooms and deliver high-quality remote reporting. Students will write local and national elections stories with an eye toward issues that will shape voting in crucial districts, counties and neighborhoods in swing states such as Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The department is establishing content-sharing partnerships with local and national news outlets at which to place the best course reporting.

** Summer registration deadline: Friday, June 5th **
