AES 151: Identities, Cultures, And Power Across American Ethnic Groups

The course will be centered on critical scholarship and praxis while introducing students to Ethnic Studies, a field rooted in anti-racist work, interdisciplinary analysis to social problems, and a deconstruction of power. Using the foundational theories, debates, and issues from the field, this class provides students with the tools and knowledge needed to critically analyze our tumultuous and ever changing world. The course will consist of both recorded and live lectures from the professor and small group discussion both online and during quiz section. This is not just a class but an opportunity to learn, build community, and work towards a more just future.

 About the Professor: Originally from White Center, Reuben Deleon is a scholar of both Ethnic Studies and Higher Education. A proud double Husky, Reuben graduated with a Bachelors in American Ethnic Studies, Sociology, and minored in Diversity in 2010. He completed his Masters of Education at the University of Washington College of Education: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies: Higher Education Program in 2012, and has since done research at UCLAs Graduate School of Education and Information Studies: Higher Education and Organizational Change program and Asian American Studies Department. His primary research interests are on the experiences of students of color in extracurricular activities, student organizations, and burnout.
