AES/ENGL Course Pair

Submitted by Stephen Dunne on
AAS 372 - Japanese American Incarceration (DIV)
AND
ENGL 297 - Writing in the Humanities (C or W)
These two courses will explore how the memory of Japanese American incarceration remains a site of struggle in the present, and its implications for current struggles over immigrants’ rights, Islamophobia, and mass incarceration.
AAS 372 (SLN 10101) surveys this history and explores the terms of political struggle and cultural memory that animate contemporary debates. Meanwhile, ENGL 297 (SLN 22286) enriches these inquiries into AAS 372 course content through writing and research opportunities in a small, interactive, and well-supported class community.
We are really excited to link these two courses, and hope you will share widely with students who are: interested in social justice issues, who might thrive in a small learning community, and/or who are seeking to fulfill their Diversity or C/W credits
