The Howard and Imogene Burton Memorial Scholarship for 2023-2024 - Call for Nominations

Requesting nominations for the annual Howard and Imogene Burton Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year. This $4,000 scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to a highly deserving Washington State resident undergraduate student who is majoring in either the Social Sciences or the Natural Sciences. Selection for the award is based on academic merit and financial need. This year, the award will go to a Social Sciences major.

The use of the award is mainly for tuition, but can also be used for fees, books and other educational needs. All nominees must be enrolled full-time at the time the award is received and at the time the award is dispersed. You may nominate one undergraduate Washington State resident student for this award. Please provide:

  • A completed nomination form (attached or available at the CAS Administrative Gateway);
  • Two letters of recommendation/nomination from the chair, a faculty member, and/or advisor;
  • Candidate’s brief statement (no more than 250 words) of educational objectives/research plans for 2023-2024;
  • Nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume;
  • A current transcript (web-accessed version is fine);
  • Verification that the student qualifies for financial need.

Please submit your nomination as a single pdf to Chantal Reynolds at chantalr@uw.edu on or before March 13, 2023.  We will announce the results in May.
