There's still space available in JSIS 498 C: Conflicts, Migration, and Refugees in Africa!
The class meets on Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. and is worth 5 credits.
This is an exciting new course which explores the root causes of political violence and climate change-induced conflicts and the resulting effects on populations such as internally displaced persons, migrants, asylees, and refugees in Sub-Saharan Africa. Students will work on an applied research/capstone project with a local or an international organization and write a policy report as a deliverable. The goal is to allow students to apply what they learn in class in a real-world setting.
The course is taught by Francis Abugbilla, who received his Ph. D. in International Studies from the University of Washington and is a conflict resolution researcher and teaches courses on war, conflict management, and peacebuilding. He is particularly interested in grassroots participation in conflict resolution, management, and peace building in Africa.
