SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES 

A FEW OPPS TO CONSIDER… 

The Killam Fellowship Program

·         The Killam Fellowship Program provides a $6,000/semester cash award for undergraduate students to spend one or two semesters at a participating University in Canada!

Deadline: Friday, December 15th, 2023. UW students should contact Marion Ferguson at canada@uw.edu for more information.

Blakemore Foundation Fellowships 

·         Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study and the new Blakemore Kingfisher Art History Language Fellowships both programs provide full tuition and a stipend for living, travel, and study expenses in Asia for an academic year of full-time intensive language study.

Richard E. Fitzner Memorial Scholarship Fund 

·         $2,500 towards tuition for wildlife-oriented biology students during the fall of their junior or senior year. 

·         Biology major entering their junior or senior year. Preference is given to applicants with financial need, experience in the field of wildlife biology, and superior grades. 

Deadline: Sunday, December 31st, 2023. The application is available on the Washington Chapter website. 

NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program

·         The NIH UGSP Scholarship is a dedicated program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research.

·         Scholarships of up to $20,000 per academic year to cover tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living costs.

·         Scholarships renewed for up to 4 consecutive years.

·         For every year of scholarship funding, students commit to two NIH service obligations, which provide unparalleled research training and experiences at NIH.

The GSBA Scholarship Fund

·         The GSBA supports students who exhibit leadership potential and strong academic abilities and are actively involved in school and community organizations. To receive a GSBA Scholarship, you must be a Washington State resident.

Deadline: Friday, January 5th, 2023, 5:00 p.m. PST. The application is available on the website.

The Emerson Fellowship

  • The Emerson Fellowship develops influential leaders in the movement to end hunger and poverty in the U.S. For graduating seniors, alumni, and graduate students/alumni
  • During their year in the program, fellows develop their leadership skills and gain hands-on experience through placements with host organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • Focus on work on anti-poverty/anti-hunger efforts and advocacy in the US and seek more experience; U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for this program.

Foreign Affairs Information Technology (FAIT) Fellowship:

·         The FAIT fellowship is designed for individuals who want to pursue an IT-related undergraduate or graduate degree and a career in Foreign Service.

·         This two-year fellowship program funded by the U.S. Department of State provides academic funding, internships, professional development, and mentorship. It culminates in a career in the Foreign Service as an Information Management Specialist (IMS).

Key Into Public Service Undergraduate Scholarship Program – Phi Beta Kappa Society

·         The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society, launched its Key into Public Service program to connect promising arts and sciences students with opportunities in public service.

·         Scholarship recipients will receive a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship and an educational conference experience in Washington, D.C., providing scholars with training, mentoring, and reflection on pathways into local, state, and federal government careers.

·         Overall GPA of 3.5 or higher with an anticipated Fall/Winter 2024 through Spring 2026 graduation date. Membership in the Society is not required.

The Boren Awards fund language study abroad

  • This award helps fund U.S. citizen students at varying proficiency levels to study languages considered "critical" to U.S. interests. Open to undergraduate and graduate students!

Deadline: Graduate Students: Wednesday, January 24, 2 p.m. (Pacific); Undergraduate Students: Wednesday, January 31, 2 p.m. (Pacific)

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship:

·         The FLAS fellowship supports undergraduate, graduate, and professional students acquiring modern foreign languages and area or international studies competencies.

·         Students from all UW departments and schools are encouraged to apply. Applicants should carefully read all FLAS guidelines, including Center-specific guidelines, before applying. Eligibility: The FLAS Fellowship is available to current and incoming UW students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or nationals.

Beinecke Scholarship for Juniors in Arts, Humanities, and Social Science fields

·         The Beinecke Scholarship seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue graduate study.

·         The Scholarship provides $35,000 for a research-focused master’s degree or doctoral program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences to juniors with financial need.

·         U.S. citizen or a United States national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands & UW nominations required.

NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Programs

·         This Opportunity is for current sophomores in NOAA-related disciplines (including social sciences and science education)

·         NOAA provides research experiences through a 10-week summer internship.

·         Financial support for conference attendance, & professional development.
