Press/Digital Assistant – Office of Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02)
Washington, D.C.

Representative Rick Larsen, a senior Washington state Democrat and the Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, seeks a Press/Digital Assistant for his Washington, D.C. personal office. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing skills, a sharp eye for video and graphic design, and a passion for traditional and digital media strategy. This position is intended for college graduates with work experience interested in pursuing a career in public service and political communications. 

The Press/Digital Assistant will report directly to the Communications Director and be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the press shop’s day-to-day operations. This position is not a typical 9-5 and may require flexibility to be available outside of traditional work hours. The Press/Digital Assistant will occasionally travel between Washington, D.C. and the district office.

Skills and Knowledge

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Prior experience in digital communications, including graphic design and video editing.

- Familiarity with social media platforms, digital communications tools, and digital best practices.

- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and pivot between tasks to meet tight deadlines.

- A proactive and collaborative attitude.

- Prior Hill experience, internship, or political communications experience is preferred but not required. 

Key Duties and Expectations

- Write and design innovative social and digital content highlighting the Representative’s district, legislative, and constituent service work.

- Draft and edit releases, statements, talking points, newsletters, captions, and quotes in the voice of Representative Larsen and his office – including rapid response to breaking news.

- Record, edit, and caption short-form videos for social media, press events, and constituent communications.

- Work collaboratively with the district office to ensure a strong local-first focus in written and digital products. 

- Monitor and compile daily press clips, traditional media coverage, and social media metrics.

- Staff, photograph, and film Representative Larsen at scheduled events and meetings.

- Support the Communications Director and staff on other assignments as needed.

- Suggest new approaches and pitch opportunities for traditional and digital communications!

This position is based in Representative Larsen’s personal Washington, D.C office. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000 annually.
