Astrobiology asks: What is life? How and when did life arise on Earth? Is there (intelligent) life elsewhere in the cosmos? Using astronomy, geology, biology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, and applying basic scientific principles, this course considers the origin and evolution of the universe, Solar System, Earth, and life on Earth. We also examine the habitability of planets and possible variety of life elsewhere. We hope to instill enthusiasm for the great intellectual sweep and research challenges of Astrobiology. We present how science works as a process to develop a new appreciation for life on this planet and a new perspective of your place in the universe.
