From the BE REAL Program:
Karan Dawson and myself will each be teaching a section of Be REAL (REsilient Attitudes & Living) this spring quarter as a 1 credit General Studies class. Be REAL is a program developed here at UW by the Center for Child & Family Well-Being and offers a place for students to learn highly transferable skills that can support them in college and beyond using a combination of mindfulness and cognitive behavioral skill building. Be REAL focuses on reducing stress, managing emotions, navigating challenging situations and strengthening compassion. (P.S. If you are asking: Does this program exist for staff on campus? The answer is YES! Thanks to the UW Resilience Lab, you can get more info/sign up here. )
We have plenty of room in each section! If you have students who could benefit from this course, please feel free to pass along the details below:
GEN ST 297 A & J: Be REAL- REsilient Attitudes and Living (1 credit, CR/NC)
Equips students with cognitive skills to manage stressful emotions and situations, mindfulness skills to strengthen self-awareness, and practices that promote compassion for themselves and others. The course will meet once a week for 50 mins. Weekly reflection assignments are flexible and low stakes, allowing students to engage in a way that invites them to center their learning and well-being needs.
