The Washington Center (TWC) runs an internship program in Washington, D.C., that is open to all UW undergraduates (all majors welcome) and provides comprehensive service, including internship placement, housing, and career coaching.
Placements include government agencies, international organizations, corporations, nonprofits, museums, and arts organizations. Hundreds of UW students have participated in this program since UW's affiliation in 1977, and many made connections that led to post-degree employment.
At the information session, a Washington Center representative and Meera Roy, Political Science adviser and UW's liaison to TWC, will discuss the structure of the program, scholarships, the application process, and UW credit.
The program is affordable for many students. Students on financial aid receive their aid. WA State residents receive a scholarship that makes the cost of attending the program comparable to many study abroad programs. Non-residents also receive a scholarship and may pay less for this program than the estimated cost of attending UW for a quarter. Additional scholarships may be available through TWC and UW.
TWC's facilities are accessible to students who have disabilities. In addition, their Disability Services Coordinator will assist with accommodation at the internship and programming sites.
These are the upcoming application deadlines:
- Autumn 2026, Aug 26-Dec 4. US Student Application Deadline: April 15, 2026 (if you are interested in the Autumn 2026 program but can't attend, email Meera at meroy@uw.edu)
- Spring 2027, Jan-Apr/May (specific dates TBA). Deadline: September 2026
Regardless of your major, there is an internship in D.C. for you! Whether you want to do an internship this year or in three years, come to an information session to learn more.
