Tongtian Xiao

I am a PhD student in Political Science at the University of Washington, focused on political economy, comparative politics, and political methodology. My dissertation examines power personalization, urban development, and economic crises of non-democratic regimes. Beyond the dissertation, I examine how authoritarian governments manage contentious episodes in their own political pasts through the construction of official histories. My research on urban policy and development also extends to policy-oriented housing research in North America, including a current project on how inclusionary zoning affects housing prices and supply in East King County, WA.

My work has appeared in journals such as The China Quarterly, Social Currents, and Social Science History.
