In a new global ranking of political science faculty productivity, Christopher Adolph, Professor of Political Science, was ranked first globally among political scientists for “recent impact,” third globally among political scientists for overall impact, and fifth globally for recent citations. The ranking assessment included data on 115,427 articles and 12,696 books published by 5,568 faculty members in 178 departments around the world and was published in PS: Political Science and Politics.

In the same assessment, adjusting for faculty size, the University of Washington's Department of Political Science was ranked second globally for recent impact (first in North America), 12th globally for overall impact (ninth in North America) and 13th globally for recent citations (tenth in North America). Departments were ranked in terms of citations to articles published by faculty members, the impact factors of journals in which they published, and the count of publications published in highly-rated journals. Recent impact refers to the most recent period studied, 2018--2022.

Prof. Adolph's research on COVID-19 policies contributed significantly to these rankings. You can learn more about this project, and the extensive involvement of political science graduate students on his team, in this article.
