Argues that federal supply management, price supports, and international food aid programs fundamentally shaped the U.S. industrial agrifood system. The decline of American small farms in favor of large industrial farming is not solely the result of modernization or economies-of-scale. Rather, it is a direct effect of federal agricultural policies implemented between 1933 to 1996.
